WhyNotWin11 is a great question to ask and also a free tool that does provide an answer to precisely that question. But first things first. Since I don’t know if you have already heard about it, I should first tell you that a new Windows will be released soon. Microsoft seems to intend to give the latest Windows 11 a more modern look and some improvements. The new operating system (OS) is scheduled to be released toward the end of 2021. It will be rolled out over a period of time that spans from the end of 2021 into 2022.

Will everything get better?

You may think that all your past grudges against Windows will now go away. But don’t put your hopes up too much. There are improvements. However, Windows is the most widely used operating system. This OS (find a Download Tool for old and current Windows versions here) is installed on millions of machines, making it impossible to make everyone happy. And one of the first questions to ask is if you can get it for your machine.

WhyNotWin11 provides the answer

Yes, you might not be able to install Windows 11 on your machine if it does not meet the requirements. And this is where WhyNotWin11 comes in. This tool will check your computer against Windows 11 and show you which requirements are not met.

WhyNotWin11 does not need to be installed. It is a small executable. It does not require any setup and does not offer any options to choose from. Just run the executable, give it a little time (some tests might take a minute on older machines), and see the results. The screenshot on top of this post shows the result for one of my old machines. It failed on four tests, so, likely, Windows 11 will not install on that machine. Below you see a screenshot of a relatively new machine. It passed every single test, so I should be able to install Windows 11 on that one.

What is better in Windows 11?

Note: WhyNotWin11 does not provide this information. We thought that we should at least offer some brief details about the pros and cons of Windows 11.

Here are the Improvements:

  • Modern looking desktop with round corners
  • Faster response time: programs start faster, quick transition from one task to another
  • System remembers window positions, even when using multiple monitors

And these are the disadvantages:

  • Hardware requirements are higher; old machines can’t install Win 11
  • Windows 11 Home Edition requires Microsoft Account; Local Accounts work only with Windows 11 Professional
  • Dark Mode works only partially; old tools ignore it
