Kindle for PC is a free application developed by Amazon that allows you to read e-books on your desktop computer. It provides access to Amazon’s vast library of e-books and e-books from other sources (see below), including bestsellers, classics, and more. With Kindle for PC, you can purchase, download, and read e-books directly on your computer. The application also syncs with other Kindle devices and apps, allowing you to seamlessly switch between reading on your PC, smartphone, tablet, or Kindle e-reader and track your progress on all devices.

Where can you get free e-books?

Amazon itself is, of course, a major source for e-books, payed and free, but there are also other sources. Here are some examples:

Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg is an exceptional resource offering a wide-ranging selection of free e-books, with a focus on classic literature and public domain works. These e-books are easily accessible for download at no cost and can be enjoyed on a variety of devices.

Smashwords

Smashwords provides a platform for independent authors and publishers to distribute their e-books. It hosts a diverse selection of titles spanning various genres, and users can access free e-books in multiple formats.

With the sources above you will have already access to many thousands of free e-books. But those are not the only resources. You can find over a million more e-books on websites like the Internet Archive, Goodreads, DigiLibraries, and others. Just search the Internet for free e-books and you will find them. However, it can sometimes be a little challenging to quickly find what you are looking for. My tip would be to search on Google using something like “free e-books for physics”(if e-books for physics is what you are looking for). The format for the e-books should be either epub or PDF to add them to Kindle for PC.

No Access to DRM files

One thing you need to be aware of is, that you can not add e-books to Kindle for PC that are protected through DRM (Digital Rights Management).
