For everyone who ever owned an Amiga, the Amiga Racer game is a look back into the happy past of gaming. The game resembles hits like “Out Run,” and the graphic is as retro as it can be. This means, of course, that you won’t get the fancy and/or realistic graphics you might be used to from other games (e.g., Forza Street). Instead, you get pixel graphics. And that’s precisely what we want from a great retro game, right? Plus, the sound and the handling of that kind of game.

Details

Amiga Racer is compatible with 64 bit systems and available for Windows, Linux, Mac, and other operating systems. The soundtrack can be changed in the menu that will appear when starting the game. There is also a multiplayer mode available, but we haven’t tested that.

One of the best features of this game is that it does not need to be installed. Just download the ZIP file, unpack it to a location of your choice and start the game by double-clicking on the executable “AmigaRacer.exe”. Why is this cool? Because, if you don’t like the game or want to delete it for other reasons you just delete the folder. There will be no files left on your system, something often happens, when an uninstaller does not work properly.

Besides the game, the ZIP archive contains a PDF file in which you will find detailed information about the game and all settings. One thing to know is that you can change from the window modus (in which the game starts initially) into the full-screen mode by clicking on the “F” key on your keyboard.

Also, if you use a game controller, you might need to reduce the sensitivity to the controls you use. Ours was set too high so steering was difficult. However, if you use the keyboard you should be fine.

Note: At the time this post was created the download page was not available. We, therefore, uploaded the game to our own server. Feel free to download the game from there if the original site should still not work.
