iTunes is a must for everybody who owns an iPod, iPad, or iPhone devices. The free software is used to manage all your music and other media files on those devices. The supported file formats include AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless, MIDI, MP3, M4A, TCA, and WAV. However, iTunes is also a popular music player on Windows PCs. The software provides you with many useful features. Besides playing your media files there are features for your convenience and your security.

Syncing your devices

The most convenient feature is the option to sync all your devices. That means, that you will be able to listen to your music on whichever device you use. You could, for example, use iTunes on your PC to rip all your favorite CDs. After all the music is read into the playlists of iTunes you simply connect your iPhone (or any other Apple device) and sync it. Now you can listen to all that new music wherever you take your iPhone.

Backing up your iPhone

Security is a big thing these days. Since you always take your iPhone with you, there is always a chance that you might lose it. Or maybe the hardware fails, and you lose your data (music files, Apps, contacts, etc.). For those cases, it would be great to have a backup with all your data stored on your PC. You can easily create this backup with iTunes and restore it on a new iPhone.

Burning CDs

This is another convenient feature in case you would like to have a backup of your music which you can also play on your CD player. Just open iTunes, then open the File menu, and then click on “Burn Playlist to Disc.”

Recommendations

There are different versions of iTunes available to be installed on your computer. One is an installer you can download to your computer and then run from there. Or you can install the Windows App through the Microsoft store. To avoid installation problems, we recommended installing the Windows App. This is because we often had issues uninstalling previous versions, and it took many steps to finally install the latest software. This issue seems to be gone with the Windows App, therefore our recommendation.

iTunes is a great software for managing music for your Apple devices. However, the software lacks support for the many other media formats on the market. If you need a great player for all of your media files, then we would recommend the VLC Media Player.
